Make Eat Get Read Go - July ’18

Where do I start with this post? So many things were crammed in to July. Hen do for my future sister-in-law, my birthday, LB’s birthday and cake, lots of cake.

Make - Favourite Things 4th Birthday Cake

Ask any 3 year old what they want for their birthday cake and their requests will always be changing. One day Little Mermaid, the next day Moana and if she happens to go to a friend’s birthday party her next cake request will be a replication of Emma’s My Little Pony cake.

Of course I ignored all of L’s requests and decided to decorate a 4-shaped cake with some of her favourite things: pink, biscuits, chocolate & marshmallows. I made a set of cupcakes for her birthday party for the little guests to take home.

I thoroughly enjoyed making this cake, even more than the monkey cake from last year.

Eat - Famous Burger and Phoenix Fries at Almost Famous, Liverpool

When you spend your future Sister-in-law’s Hen Do paddling boarding with jellyfish around the Liverpool Docks followed by a cocktail making class at All Bar One you need sustenance.

Almost Famous is an american-style burger joint in the Northern Quarter of Liverpool. I went for a Famous Burger, shared a portion of Phoenix Fries with my sister topped off with a can of Ting. It certainly hit the spot and was one of the best burgers I’ve eaten. We will certainly return next time we’re in Liverpool.

Get - Photography backdrops by Black Velvet Styling

Perks of my job mean I get to work with some fabulous foodie people. July was the turn of Matt Inwood at his Instagram Masterclass. Blackvelvet Styling was also there with her great new photography backdrops.

You only have to look at my Instagram grid to see I’m always playing around with photo styles. I’m still trying to find my style and food photography has evolved so much since I started blogging 10 years ago.

This is my favourite photo of the day. Simply taken on my (ancient 5s) iPhone and tweaked with Instagram filters.

Read - Icecream for Breakfast by Laura Jane Williams

A birthday present to myself. If you don’t follow @superlativeLJ on Instagram I highly recommend it. I’m only a few chapters in to the book so far but I’m enjoying it. It’s an ideal book to put down and pick up again and make you realise the child in yourself deserves ice cream for breakfast once in a while.

Go - Color Obstacle Rush at Uttoxeter Race Course

As a kid I was the type of child who used to volunteer themselves to do the long distance running race on sports day and did the Blue Peter Fun Run, for fun. These days swimming and yoga are more my thing.

My friend Ellie & I, jealous of our husbands finding time to run/cycle races, decided to enter the 5km Color Obstacle Rush. Along with my sister and sister-in-law we headed to Uttoxeter Race Course on a super hot Saturday to run through a load of obstacles while having powder paint chucked at us. No personal bests for us given we decided it was far too hot to run most of it so ran/danced instead but it was still great fun. Most importantly we got a medal at the end.

August is busy with adventures as L starts school in September. How did that happen so quick?
