Raspberry Birthday Macarons

For the last few years I’ve made my own birthday cake including a Strawberry & Cream Victoria Sponge, Strawberry Ice Cream Cupcakes. As I’d made Hubs his birthday cake last year I asked him to make me one this year. I’d jokingly told him that I wanted this fabulous Owl birthday cake.

Last night I was working over Stafford way with Seasoned so my birthday dinner was a sandwich in a white van while trundling along the A50. I’ve often grumbled that I can’t make macarons so while I was out of the house, with Edd Kimber’s – The Boy Who Bakes to hand, Hubs decided to make these beautiful Tiffany blue macarons for me. They were filled with buttercream and raspberry jam. Before 6pm last night Hubs hadn’t made a single macaron in his life. The batch he gave me was only the second batch he’d made. Look they have feet AND no cracks. Something I’ve never managed to achieve. At this rate he’s going to steal my bakers crown. Hubs even got Edd’s seal of approval.

A big thank you to all my friends and family for their birthday cards, wishes and pressies.

I loved the colour or them. So delicate. He’d initially made pink ones, but they didn’t work.

‘He can make macarons’ is being added to the list of reasons why I married him!

What a gorgeous present to arrive home to – hubby has some serious macaron making skills! My boyfriend is a brilliant cook, but only if the dish is meat-based :-)

Hubs is usually the meat king here. It’s the first time he’s made me something sweet for a very long time.
